The Story of Flotsam and Jetsam

We have removed a whopping 80 tons of rubbish from the Abrolhos Islands since 2011!  Initially starting as a project to simply "do good", "give back" and "take care of the place where we grow our pearls", the Flotsam and Jetsam initiative quickly developed into what it is today; not only collecting rubbish but having local artists transform it into recycled works of art.

The name Flotsam & Jetsam refers to oceanic debris, and each year we receive over 100 art entries.
Delivering many more benefits than just cleaning up coastline debris, we have discovered a unique way to encourage local artists, particularly emerging artists, to express themselves without the risk of being judged. All artworks are displayed in an exhibition open to the general public, with artists having the option to sell their piece if they wish to.

We are proud to receive so much positive feedback, with suggestions to go "national" and "global" to share our Flotsam & Jetsam story. This encouraged us to document it in a movie in 2020.

Now, the Flotsam & Jetsam story can be shared and viewed everywhere! Enjoy.
